The artistic achievements of women artists in Austria in the first half of the twentieth century have generally either been utterly forgotten or have only received scant recognition. In so many cases these women were forced to flee the country from the Nazi regime after 1938 because of their "race”. In addition female artists faced prejudice because of their gender. The aim of this project is to research the life and work of these unjustly forgotten artists and to track down their missing works of art. The success of this project hinges on unearthing undiscovered or forgotten information.
